C.O. Jellema

The Netherlands, 1936 - 2003

Cornelius Onno Jellema was a poet and essayist. He studied theology and German, and made his debut as a poet in De Gids in 1961. Success came in 1981 with the publication of De schaar van het verleden. Jellema’s large oeuvre comprises poetry collections, but also essays on poetry, reviews of German literature (published in NRC Handelsblad and other periodicals) and pieces on Heinrich Heine, Rainer Maria Rilke and Gerrit Achterberg, which were collected in Oefeningen bij een beek (2000) and Verzameld Werk (2005).
