Eva Hoffman

Poland, 1945

Eva Hoffman is the author of novels and non-fiction works such as Time (2009) and Appassionata (2011). Hoffman was born in Poland as the daughter of Ukrainian Jews and settled in Canada as a teenager, as she describes in Lost in Translation (1989). She obtained a PhD in English and American literature at Harvard, taught at various institutions, such as Columbia University, and was editor of the New York Times Book Review. She currently lives in London, where she writes and teaches creative writing at Kingston University.
