Gerald Stieg studied theology, philosophy, philology and German in Innsbruck, Graz and Paris. He obtained a PhD in German studies at the Sorbonne, where he became Professor of German and Austrian Literature in 1988. Among his works are ‘Der Brenner’ und ‘Die Fackel’. Ein Beitrag zur WIrkungsgeschichte von Karl Kraus (1976) and Rainer Maria Rilke. Oeuvres poétiques et théâtrales (1997).
