Jana Beranová is a writer, poet and translator. With her parents, she escaped the communist regime of her country of birth in 1948, eventually settling down in the Netherlands. Beranová studied economics in Rotterdam and became known as the translator of the novels of Milan Kundera. In 2011, Werkboek came out, a selection of poetry from seven poetry books as well as new works, with the dvd Aan je lippen een trompet, in cooperation with Eric Vloeimans. In 2008, Beranová received the Erasmusspeld for the Arts, and in 2009 and 2010, she was city poet for Rotterdam.
