John Julius Norwich

John Julius Norwich is a historian, tv personality and member of the British House of Lords. He studied at Oxford and became a diplomat in countries such as Yugoslavia and Lebanon. In 1964, he left the foreign service to become a writer. Among his historiographical works are A History of Venice (1981) and the Byzantium trilogy (1988-1995). In 2008, his autobiography Trying to Please came out; in 2011, he published The Popes. A History. Norwich has made TV documentaries on historical subjects and was the host of various radio programmes.
