Maurizio Viroli

Maurizio Viroli is a political philosopher. He studied philosophy in Bologna and gained a PhD at the European University in Florence with the thesis Jean-Jacques Rousseau and the ‘Well-Ordered Society’ (1988). After teaching at Cambridge and Georgetown, Viroli became Professor of Political Theory at Princeton. He is also the director of the Institute for Mediterranean studies of the University of Lugano, where he is Professor of Institutional Communications. Among Viroli’s works are How to read Machiavelli (2008) and The Liberty of Servants (2011).
