Patricia de Martelaere was philosopher and writer. She studied philosophy in Leuven and obtained her PhD in 1984, writing her dissertation on David Hume’s scepticism. She worked as a lecturer in Leuven and Brussels. De Martelaere also wrote several novels and essays. Her 1988 debut was Nachtboek van een slapeloze (1988), followed by the novel Het onverwachte antwoord (2004) and the collection of poems Niets dat zegt (2002).
