Pavlo Klimkin is Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine since June 2014, and is an advocate for a strong pro-European policy. After a youth in Kursk, near the border with Ukraine, he studied mathematics and physics in Moscow. He settled in Ukraine, and worked for two years as a researcher at the National Institute of Science. In 1993, he started his career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He held a variety of positions in diplomacy, where he devoted himself to the security of Ukraine and the relationship of his country with the EU. Klimkin played a central role in negotiating the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement in 2014, and is a strong supporter of closer relations between the two parties of the Agreement on political, economical and cultural grounds.
