Steven Beller

Steven Beller studied history at Cambridge and was a research fellow at that same university from 1985 until he gained his PhD in 1989. He then went to teach at Georgetown University and led a research project on ethnicity and modernity in Central Europe at Princeton. Among his books are Vienna and the Jews, 1867 – 1938: A Cultural History (1989), The Life and Thought of Theodor Herzl (1991), Francis Joseph (1996) and A Concise History of Austria (2007). In 2001, the essay collection Rethinking Vienna 1900 appeared.
