Thriving on Disorder

Nassim Nicholas Taleb, former derivatives trader, is a philosopher and scholar who wrote two brilliant books on unpredictability, risk and human behavior. In the classic The Black Swan (2007) and the recent Antifragile (2012), Taleb argues convincingly that we never see the unthinkable coming, whereas we should actually learn to benefit from it. For why is it that bankers and economists didn’t manage to predict the financial crisis? And how can a natural disaster like that of Fukushima in 2011 disrupt a society so completely? Ought we not change our behavior to prevent the unexpected from harming us? And how can we become ‘antifragile’? In his masterclass Thriving on Disorder, Taleb (whom the Sunday Times called ‘the hottest thinker in the world’) enters into a debate with the audience on the question of ‘what to do in a world we don’t understand’.
