Bhaskar Sunkara

Bhaskar Sunkara is a political writer and activist. In 2010, whilst still a student, he founded the magazine Jacobin, which soon attracted tens of thousands of subscribers. In 2016, he became vice-chair of the Democratic Socialists of America, a socialist organization that campaigns for socialist policies in the United States. Sunkara gained widespread recognition with his book The Socialist Manifesto: The Case for Radical Politics in an Era of Extreme Inequality (2019), in which he explains how capitalism is inherently built on inequality and proposes democratic reforms. He advocates for a more egalitarian society, in which ordinary people have a greater say over the institutions that shape their lives, partly through workplace democracy. Since 2022, Sunkara has been president of the progressive magazine The Nation.
