Charles Rosen
Charles Rosen was a pianist and author. Composers like Stravinsky, Elliott and Boulez personally invited him to play and record their works. He wrote a great number of works on music and musical theory, such as The Classical Style: Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven (1971) and Piano Notes: The World of the Pianist (2002). Rosen, who obtained a PhD in French literature at Princeton and who taught at Harvard and Oxford, regularly wrote for the New York Review of Books.
