Heather Watts

Heather Watts was a ballet dancer for the New York City Ballet from 1970 to 1995, where company founder George Balanchine made her principal dancer in 1979. She had the lead role in many of Balanchine’s works, including Agon, Theme and Variations and Serenade. Heather Watts directed many (inter)national dance companies, and rehearsed and staged ballets around the world. She also designed costumes for various ballet productions and taught classes at Harvard University. She has been arts and culture editor at Vanity Fair magazine since 1995.
