What is a Masterpiece?
Cellist Janos Starker looks back upon a life dedicated to music and asks himself what it is that makes a piece of music or any other work of art a masterpiece. He names ten elements, from unity and control to originality and indestructibility. One thing is certain, says Starker: true art enriches the life of the viewer, reader or listener, and serves humanity.
