Adrienne Clarkson

Adrienne Clarkson is a journalist and stateswoman who served as Governor-General of Canada between 1999 and 2005. As a child, Clarkson fled from Japanese-occupied Hong Kong with her parents. In Canada she worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and as a diplomat, before being appointed as Governor-General by Queen Elizabeth II. Clarkson founded and co-chaired the Institute for Canadian Citizenship and, among many other honours, was appointed Colonel-in-Chief of Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry. Among her published works are her memoirs Heart Matters (2006), Room for All of Us (2011) and Belonging: The Paradox of Citizenship (2014).
