Alexander Goehr

Alexander Goehr is a composer. He studied in Manchester as well as in Paris with Olivier Messiaen. He became known for his avant garde works, such as Arden Must Die (1966), the music theatre piece Triptych (1968-1970) and the orchestral work Metamorphosis/Dance (1974). After 1976, he opted for a more traditional style in works such as The Death of Moses. Between 1976 and 1999, Goehr was Professor of Music in Cambridge. 2010 saw the premiere of his opera Promised End.
