Boris Groys

Boris Groys is a philosopher, essayist, art critic, media theorist and expert in postmodern Soviet art and the Russian avant-garde. He studied mathematics at Leningrad State University and obtained a PhD in Philosophy in Münster. He is especially well-known for his book The Total Art of Stalinism (1992). He also wrote Art Power (2008) and Introduction to Antiphilosophy (2012), and made the videos Thinking in Loop: Three Videos on Iconoclasm, Ritual and Immortality (2008). Groys is Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies at New York University, and teaches aesthetics, art history and media theory in Karlsruhe.
