Carlo Ginzburg

Carlo Ginzburg taught European cultural history at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, where he also studied. He obtained his PhD in 1961 at the University of Pisa and taught at Harvard, Yale and Princeton, among other universities. Between 1988 and 2006, he was Professor of Italian Renaissance at the University of California in Los Angeles. Ginzburg became known through his book The Cheese and the Worms: The Cosmos of a Sixteenth Century Miller (1976). He is the son of Natalia and Leone Ginzburg, two prominent anti-fascist intellectuals, the latter of whom paid with his life for his resistance against Mussolini.
