Delmore Schwartz

Delmore Schwartz was a poet. He started writing poetry, short stories and essays on poetry while studying philosophy at Harvard. For the essay ‘Poetry as Imitation’ (1936), he received the Bowdoin Prize in the Humanities. He had his breakthrough in 1937 with the publication of the short story ‘In Dreams Begin Responsibilities’. From 1943 to 1955, Schwartz was an editor with the Partisan Review. He published numerous volumes of short stories, poems and plays, such as Genesis (1943), World Is a Wedding (1948) and Vaudeville for a Princess and Other Poems (1950).
