Elisabeth Mann Borgese

Elisabeth Mann Borgese was the youngest daughter of Thomas Mann, cofounder of the Club of Rome and advisor to the United Nations and the World Bank on the environment. In 1933, she followed her parents in exile to Switzerland and the United States. After a brief career as a pianist, she became involved, partly through her marriage with Italian scholar and writer G.A. Borgese, with international politics and environmental law. In 1979, she was made Professor in Political Science at Dalhousie University in Canada, where she founded the International Ocean Institute.
