Ian Buruma
Ian Buruma is a journalist, publicist, and academic specializing in Asian Studies. He studied Chinese literature in Leiden and Japanese film in Tokyo, and wrote political and cultural reports for newspapers and periodicals such as The New York Review of Books, The New Republic and The New York Times. Buruma was a researcher at the Wissenschaftskolleg in Berlin, the Woodrow Center in Washington DC and St. Anthony’s College in Oxford. Among his books are God’s Dust (1988), Occidentalism (2004), Taming the Gods: Religion and Democracy on Three Continents (2010) and Year Zero: A History of 1945 (2013). He has been Luce Professor of Democracy, Human Rights and Journalism at Bard College in New York since 2003.
