Julian Nida-Rümelin

Julian Nida-Rümelin’s career can be considered brilliant: after studying philosophy, physics, mathematics and political science, he obtained a PhD in philosophy, became a Professor in Philosophy at the University of Tübingen from 1993 to 2003 and was named culture and media advisor to the first Schröder cabinet between 2001 and 2002. He has been Professor of Political Science at the University of Göttingen since 2003. In such publications as Humanismus als Leitkultur (2006), Demokratie und Wahrheit (2006), Die Optimierungsfalle. Philosophie einer humanen Ökonomie (2011) and Philosophie einer humanen Bildung (2013), humanist Nida-Rümelin developed an all-encompassing philosophy of ethics, economics and politics. He often participates in the public debate on subjects ranging from religious fundamentalism to the decline of the university.
