In 2015, he was awarded the prestigious Man Booker International Prize; in 2019 he received the National Book Award from the us National Book Foundation. Krasznahorkai debuted in 1985 with the novel Satantango, which was made into a widely acclaimed seven-hour drama film directed by Béla Tarr in 1994 — in collaboration with Krasznahorkai himself.
