Loukas Tsoukalis

Loukas Tsoukalis is a European political economist who not only works towards further European integration but is himself a prime example of it. He studied in Manchester, Bruges and Oxford, where he also obtained his doctorate and taught for many years. He subsequently held the Jean Monnet Chair in European Integration at the University of Athens and was a professor at the European Institute of the London School of Economics. Throughout his impressive career, Tsoukalis has always operated at the intersection of academia and policy and has advised various Presidents of the European Commission and the European Council, always with a focus on further European integration. In 2026, Tsoukalis is a professor at Sciences Po and chairman of Greece’s largest think tank, the Hellenic Foundation for European and Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP). His status as an EU insider and advocate is also evident from his books, including In Defence of Europe: Can the European Project Be Saved? (2016) and Europe’s Coming of Age (2023).
