Marc Fumaroli
Marc Fumaroli was an essayist and a cultural and literary historian. From 1986 until his retirement in 2002, he was professor at the Collège de France. In 1995, he was elected to the Académie Française. Fumaroli was the editor of Histoire de la rhétorique dans l’Europe moderne, 1450-1950 (1999), a classic work of 1500 pages on rhetoric containing contributions from 24 scholars from all over Europe. Among his other works, L’âge de l’éloquence: rhétorique et ‘res literaria’ de la Renaissance au seuil de l’époque classique (1980), La diplomatie de l’esprit, de Montaigne à La Fontaine (1995), Paris-New York et retour: Voyage dans les arts et les images (2009) and La republique des lettres (2015) stand out.
