Marius Flothuis

Marius Flothuis was a composer and musicologist. He studied Latin, Greek and musicology. He became assistant artistic director to the Concertgebouw in 1937, but was forced to resign from that position in 1942 due to his resistance to the German occupation. Between 1955 and 1974, he returned there as artistic director. Flothuis gained a PhD in 1969 with a thesis on Mozart’s compositions, and was Professor of Musicology at Utrecht University from 1974 to 1983. Besides over a hundred compositions, Flothuis also wrote music reviews and books, such as Denken over muziek (1993) and Mozarts Klavierkonzerte (1998).
