Max Weber

Max Weber studied law and history and taught law, economics, history and philosophy, becoming a professor in Heidelberg and Munich. He is mostly known for his publications on sociology: his Wirtschaft und Gesellschaft. Grundriss der verstehenden Soziologie (1922, English translation Economy and Society: An Outline of Interpretive Sociology, 1978) is considered a classic. Other important works by Weber are Die protestantische Ethik und der Geist des Kapitalismus (1905, English translation The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism, 1930), Die Objectivität sozialwissenschaftlicher Erkenntnis (1904) and Wirtschaftsethik der Weltreligionen (1915). Weber was also politically active as one of the founders of the German Democratic Party.
