Nathalie Tocci

Nathalie Tocci is a political scientist and the director of the Istituto Affari Internazionali. She is a leading authority in the field of international relations and the role of the EU. Tocci studied Politics, Philosophy, and Economics at Oxford and earned her PhD from the London School of Economics. In 2006, she joined the Istituto Affari Internazionali, an influential Italian think tank, as a Senior Fellow, and she has served as its director since 2017. Since 2014, Tocci has also acted as an advisor to both the Italian and European governments, most recently advising Josep Borrell Fontelles, the EU’s High Representative. Tocci has published several books on European political policy, including Framing the EU’s Global Strategy (2017) and A Green and Global Europe (2022), and regularly contributes opinion pieces, columns, and analyses to outlets such as The Guardian, Foreign Affairs, and Politico.
