Jeff Flake
Jeff Flake is an American politician and diplomat, who served as President Joe Biden’s ambassador to Turkey between 2022 and 2024. After serving in the US House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013 for the Republican Party, Flake was elected to the United States Senate, where he served for six years. While in the Senate, Senator Flake chaired the Subcommittee on Privacy, Technology & the Law. He also directed the Foundation for Democracy in Namibia during its transition to independence. Flake gained international fame when he was the very first Republican senator to bravely warn about the dangers of President Trump’s policies for American democracy, about which he also writes in his book Conscience of a Conservative: A Rejection of Destructive Politics and a Return to Principle (2017), a New York Times bestseller. His 2018 Senate floor speech titled ‘Truth and Democracy’ was carried live on CNN, MSNBC and the FOX News Channel. Flake’s frankness earned him the eternal enmity of Trump cum suis.
