Sigiswald Kuijken

Sigiswald Kuijken studied the violin at the music academies of Bruges and Brussels. Together with his brother Wieland, he became acquainted with early music at a young age. An autodidact, he familiarized himself with specific seventeenth and eighteenth century playing techniques and interpretive conventions, and performed with Gustav Leonhardt, Frans Brüggen, Anner Bylsma, René Jacobs and others. From 1971 to 1996, he was professor in baroque violin at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. In 1972, he founded the renowned baroque ensemble La Petite Bande.
