Stefan Hertmans

Stefan Hertmans is a prominent Flemish poet, novelist, essayist, critic and playwright. His oeuvre, which received many distinctions, testifies of a wide knowledge of cultural history: from literature, classical mythology, philosophy, art and film to travelling and music. Among his best-known works are the novels Naar Merelbeke (1994), Als op de eerste dag (2001) and Harder dan sneeuw (2004) and the poetry collection Muziek voor de Overtocht. Gedichten 1965-2005 (2006). In 2011, Hertmans’ book of essays De mobilisatie van Arcadia appeared.
