Toon Riemen

Toon Riemen was educated as a Catholic trade union leader at the A.C. de Bruijn-instituut in Den Bosch, and began working with metal workers’ union St. Eloy before becoming union leader with the Netherlands Catholic Trade Union in 1971. In that function, he was one of the founders of the FNV, into which various unions merged. He also laid the foundations of the early retirement scheme VUT.
