Avigdor Arikha

Avigdor Arikha was an artist and art historian. As a Jewish boy, he survived the concentration camps, upon which he spent several years in a Palestinian kibbutz. Arikha was badly injured in Israel’s War of Independence. He studied at art academies in Jerusalem and Paris and settled down in the French capital. His works were displayed in museums like the Louvre, Tate Gallery and the Metropolitan Museum. Arikha published Peinture et regard (1991) and On Depiction (1995).
