Hans Belting
Hans Belting is an art historian. He studied in Mainz and Rome, worked as a researcher at Harvard and between 1966 and 1992 held professorships in Hamburg, Heidelberg and Munich. After his retirement in 1992, he was a professor at the Institute for Art History and Media Theory in Karlsruhe until 2002, and he was director of the International Research Center for Cultural Studies in Vienna until 2007. He wrote the books Das Ende der Kunstgeschichte (1983), Das Unsichtbare Meisterwerk (1998) and Spiegel der Welt: Die Erfindung des Gemäldes in den Niederlanden (2010).
