John Felstiner

John Felstiner is Emeritus Professor of English at Stanford University, where he began working in 1965. He translated works of Paul Celan and Pablo Neruda into English. In 1972, he published his first book, The Lies of Art. Max Beerbohm’s Parody and Caricature. 1980 saw the appearance of Translating Neruda. The Way to Machu Picchu, which earned him various prizes. Among his other works are Paul Celan. Poet, Survivor, Jew (1995) and Can Poetry Save the Earth? A Field Guide to Nature Poems (2009). Since his retirement, Felstiner has been travelling the United States in order to make young people aware of the importance of the environment through poetry.
