John Leighton

John Leighton is director of the National Galleries of Scotland. He studied art history at the University of Edinburgh, where he lectured until he became curator of nineteenth-century painting at the National Gallery in London. Between 1997 and 2006, he was general director of the Museum Mesdag and the Van Gogh Museum, where he organized the successful exposition Edouard Manet: Impressions of the Sea (2004).
