Laurence Lerner

Laurence Lerner wrote three novels, nine books of poetry and a large number of literary analyses, among which The Frontiers of Literature (1988), Peace Studies: A Proposal (1995) and You Can’t Say That! English Usage Today (2010) stand out. Lerner studied in Cape Town and Cambridge and taught English language and literature, first as an associate professor, then as a professor, at universities in West Africa, Belfast, Sussex and Nashville (Vanderbilt University, where he remained until his retirement in 1995). He used his academic experiences to write Wandering Professor (1999).
