Lilia Shevtsova

Lilia Shevtsova studied political science in the former USSR and became the Deputy Director of one of the main Soviet think tanks. After the collapse of the USSR, she held several key-positions at research centers in the newly emerged Russian republic and taught at Cornell, Georgetown and Berkeley. Shevtsova was the founding Chair of the Global Council on Russia’s Future at the Davos World Economic Forum and regularly participates in the Bilderberg Club meetings. In 1995, she joined the Carnegie Endowments for International Peace, working for its political programme in both Washington DC and Moscow. She published numerous essays in leading papers, including the Financial Times, Washington Post, Le Monde and Die Zeit. Shevtsova is the author of twenty books on the transition history of Russia, its leaders and the relationship between Russia and the West, among which Putin’s Russia (2005) and Lonely Power: Why Russia Has Failed to Become the West and the West is Weary of Russia (2010).
