Rémi Brague

Rémi Brague is a professor in medieval Jewish and Arab philosophy in Paris and Munich. He translated works by Leo Strauss and Maimonides, and gained renown with his books on classical and medieval culture, religion, identity and literature. His best-known publication is Eccentric Culture: A Theory of Western Civilization (1992), in which he claims that the Romans stood at the basis of Europe and European identity. He also wrote books such as Law of God: The Philosophical History of an Idea (2005) and The Legend of the Middle Ages: Philosophical Explorations of Medieval Christianity, Judaism, and Islam (2009).
