René Boomkens

René Boomkens is professor of social and cultural philosophy at the University of Groningen. Between 1998 and 2002, he was Extraordinary Professor of Pop Music at the University of Amsterdam. He published books on modern urban culture and development (his 1998 dissertation Een drempelwereld) and on globalization and culture (De nieuwe wanorde, 2006). His latest work is an introduction to cultural philosophy: Erfenissen van de Verlichting, 2011. Boomkens has been a member of the Council for Culture, the advisory council on arts and culture of the Dutch government, since 2006.
