Robert Alter

Robert Alter is professor of Hebrew language and comparative literature at Berkeley. He studied at Columbia University and Harvard and began his career at Commentary Magazine. His book The Art of Biblical Narrative (1981) won the National Jewish Book Award for Jewish Thought. He also translated and annotated the five books of Moses, the Psalms, Job, Proverbs and Ecclesiastes. His Pen of Iron. American Prose and the King James Bible appeared in 2010.
