Sarat Maharaj

Sarat Maharaj is an art historian and a curator. A political refugee, he was granted asylum in Britain, where he gained a PhD in art history. Between 1980 and 2005, he was Professor of Art History and Art Theory at Goldsmith College of the University of London. He also taught in Berlin and Maastricht. He is now Professor of Visual Art and Knowledge Systems at Lund University. Maharaj curated various exhibitions, for instance on Marcel Duchamp and postcolonialism. His research deals with modernity, diversity and multiculturalism.
