Sigmund Rolat

Sigmund Rolat is a renowned Jewish philanthropist and generous patron of the arts, with a keen interest in Polish-Jewish history and culture. After captivity in the Polish HASAG-Pelcery work camp in his hometown Częstochowa in World War II, Rolat left for the United States in 1948. His studies at the universities of Cincinnati and New York prepared him for a successful career at an international export company. He is patron of the Częstochowa Philharmonic, founding father of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw, and president of the World Society of Częstochowa Jews and Their Descendants, amongst many other public functions. In 2013, Rolat received a Commander’s Cross with Star of the Order of Merit from the Republic of Poland, the highest honour for citizens living abroad, for his outstanding contribution to Polish-Jewish dialogue and initiatives to keep the memory and culture of Polish Jews alive for future generations.
