Vladimir Tismaneanu

Vladimir Tismaneanu is Professor of Political Science at the University of Maryland, where he is also director of the University’s Center for the Study of Post-Communist Societies. He has been President of the Scientific Council of the Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania since 2010. Tismaneanu was editor of the journal East European Politics and Societies and wrote numerous essays and books, among which Fantasies of Salvation: Nationalism, Democracy, and Myth in Post-Communist Europe (1998), Stalinism for All Seasons: A Political History of Romanian Communism (2003) and The Devil in History (2012) stand out.
