Yoel Gamzou
Yoel Gamzou is a conductor and composer. He studied in Tel Aviv, New York, Paris and Milan, and has been the musical director of the Polish National Opera in Warsaw since 2026. Previously, he held the same post at the Theater Bremen and was deputy musical director at the Kassel State Theater. He has also appeared as a guest conductor at, amongst other places, the State Opera in Vienna, Hamburg and Munich, the Opéra national de Paris and the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. Gamzou is renowned for his interpretations of the works of Gustav Mahler. At the age of 23, he received widespread acclaim for his own ‘complete’ version of Mahler’s Tenth Symphony, which he released on cd with the International Mahler Orchestra, which he founded. For this, he was awarded the German ECHO Klassik Award. In 2013, he received the Princess Margriet Award from the European Cultural Foundation ‘for his exceptional talent and energy in inspiring different generations of musicians and audiences across Europe’. In his work, Gamzou always seeks the ‘why’ behind art and culture, and their significance for society.
