enlightened scientist and philosopher
Blaise Pascal
Blaise Pascal was a mathematician, physicist and Christian philosopher. During his lifetime, he was known as a prominent representative of the new, rational science, laying the foundations of various scientific theories and laws. After his death, he was discovered to have written an incomplete apology of Christian faith: the Pensées, published posthumously in 1680, have become a classic.
