Claudio Magris

Claudio Magris is a writer of essays, plays, translations and cultural and philosophical pieces. His best-known book is Danube (1986), on the history and culture of Mitteleuropa. In the 1990s, Magris was a member of the Italian Senate and from 1978 until his retirement in 2006 he was Professor of German literature at the University of Trieste. Magris is a columnist and essayist for the Corriere della Sera.
