Louis Dupré

Louis Dupré is a Catholic philosopher and phenomenologist. He studied in Leuven and gained a PhD with a thesis on Karl Marx. Between 1958 and 1972, he taught philosophy at Georgetown University. He became Professor in the Philosophy of Religion at Yale University in 1973 and remained there until his retirement in 1998. His research is mainly focused on modern thought and its consequences for religious philosophy. Dupré’s best-known works are Passage to Modernity (1995) and The Enlightenment and the Intellectual Foundations of Modern Culture (2005).
