Rüdiger Safranski

Rüdiger Safranski is a philosopher and a writer. He studied philosophy, history and German literature in Frankfurt (Main) and Berlin. Between 1972 and 1977, he taught German literature at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he also gained his PhD. He then worked for the literary journal Berliner Hefte. Safranski became known through his books on the German Romantics, both poets and thinkers. Among his works is Romantik. Eine deutsche Affäre (2007). He also published biographies of Nietzsche, Schiller and Heidegger, and between 2002 and 2012 presented the TV show Das Philosophische Quartett with Peter Sloterdijk. In 2009, Goethe und Schiller appeared.
