Jean Bethke Elshtain

Jean Bethke Elshtain was Professor in Social and Political Ethics at the University of Chicago and investigated the relationship between politics and ethics. She also held appointments at other universities such as Harvard and Yale. She rose to prominence as a catholic public intellectual with the publication of Democracy on Trial (1995). She has published widely in books, newspapers and journals on democracy, feminism, religion and politics, ethical dilemmas and international relations. She dealed with these matters further in her book Sovereignty: God, State, Self (2008).
